It's been a while. An update to kick-off 2021.

It has been 4 months since I posted. I got stuck on a topic that I really wanted to write about, but I just could not get the words to come out right. The whole writing process got bigger than it needed to be, and I kept procrastinating.

Today I decided to pivot and just provide a few updates to hopefully gain momentum.

SCANS

I had a clear scan in September, and another in January. The September visit made 1 year of clear scans since the surgery, so my neurooncologist changed my follow up MRI cadence from every 3 months to every 4 months. That seems like a small change, but I cannot express how much of a relief it has been for everyone to only deal with follow up scans every 120 days instead of every 90 days. My next appointment is not until May 7th.

ACTIVISM

At the end of December, I had a virtual meeting with Senator Bill Cassidy’s senior healthcare policy advisor to discuss federal legislative efforts impacting brain cancer research. It was a great experience and a super productive discussion. I could tell my story made an impact, and at the conclusion of the meeting the policy advisor requested that I reach out to him directly in February when the National Brain Tumor Society (NBTS) has finalized its legislative priorities for the year. I aim to continue political advocacy in 2021 and plan to share more specifics about these efforts.

WORK

We had a couple of big changes with respect to our careers. Megan started a new / additional job at the West Feliciana Parish Chamber of Commerce, helping to drive community engagement and develop relationships with local businesses. She has been very excited, and I am excited for her as she is both very good at and enjoys the work. In October, I resigned from my position at the company I have been with for 90% of my career. It was a hard decision but the right one. I started a legal consulting company and joined an emerging legal tech company to help lead commercial activities and strategy. It has been fun to begin these new ventures. I feel thankful to be in a position that allows us to take on new professional challenges and risks.

Thanks for reading.

Nick
